Basketball wraps up season

The Varsity boys basketball season is now over, but this team will forever be remembered by all fans that watched them play this year.

The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 17-13 and 10-7 in district play, falling to the Lancaster Tigers in the 3rd round of the UIL State Playoffs.

The season proved to be an up and down one. They started off with a 2-1 record in November before going 8-4 in December, 5-3 in January, and 3-4 in February (including playoffs), and losing to Lancaster on March 1st in the 3rd round of playoffs.

On November 4, the Eagles kicked off the season with their annual event, Basketball Madness. This gave fans a glimpse of the varsity team they were gonna watch for the rest of the season as they watch the Eagles compete in three point competitions, skills challenges, and a dunk contest.

The Eagles would start their preseason on November 20 against Killeen winning by a score of 65-52. Four days later, November 24, the Eagles would fall to Greenhill by a score of 64-48. They bounced back, though, to end November with a 47-39 win over Sachse.

The varsity boys started December with a 61-57 loss against rival South Grand Prairie. They would then compete in a tournament, hosted by Lake Ridge. They would go 2-2 in the tournament, losing again to South Grand Prairie on December 5.

District play started for the Eagles on December 11 against lowly Ennis, beating them 82-47. They would go on a 4 game district win streak (Ennis, Red Oak, Summit, Timberview) before entering the Whataburger Tournament on December 28. The Eagles would go 1-2 in the tournament, losing to powerhouse DeSoto and Arlingon Martin, and defeating Klein Forest.

January began badly for the Eagles as they fell to the Lancaster Tigers, 78-56, on January 2. They would bounce back, though, going on another four game win streak against Seguin (61-58), Waxahachie (41-32), Legacy (41-30), and Ennis (51-25). The streak would be ended by Red Oak (70-60) on a night where the Eagles couldn’t find their stroke until it was too late. They would finish January with win against Seguin (63-57 2 OT) and a loss to Timberview (51-48).

February would prove to be a tough, but triumphant month for the Eagles. They opened up the month with three straight losses to Lancaster (46-64), Seguin (49-51), and Waxahachie (55-63). They would then finished off district with a 96-61 win over Legacy.

Due to a tie for third place, Lake Ridge and Seguin were scheduled for one more game to break the tie and determine seeding for the UIL State Playoffs. The Eagles would drop the game, 71-61, and finish the season fourth in 5A Region II District 14 play.

The UIL State Playoffs started on February 24. The Eagles played Dallas South Oak Cliff and won 72-60 to advance to the second round against Tyler John Tyler. The Eagles, again, would win that game 84-63 to advance to the third round for just the second time in Lake Ridge boys basketball history.

The Eagles season would end against Lancaster by a score of 66-56.

While the season was up and down, it was definitely an exciting one to watch. Congratulations Eagles on an unforgettable season!
