As the temperature cools and the pumpkin spice scent wafts through the air, the cozy feeling of fall begins to creep around the corner. Whether it’s from the annual state fair, the college football games, or pumpkin patches, people tend to celebrate the new coming fall season with food, fashion, family, and friends.
The Texas State Fair is an annual event that many people look forward to. It includes thrilling rides, new tasty fair food, and spending quality time with loved ones. The fair starts during the fall season, and attracts millions with the fall festivities. Maryah Macaffe, sophomore, attended the Texas State Fair and enjoyed all the new foods and festive atmosphere.
“Every year a new food from the fair trends, last year I remember a long line for the dipped cheesecake, and this time I saw a line for this dubai chocolate ice cream thing,” Macaffe said.
Another annual event that happens in the fall is the Red River Rivalry where the Texas Long Horns play against the Oklahoma Sooners. The football game is usually held the first or second weekend of fall, and serves as a signal of the new coming season for many college football fans. Junior Jaxson Hayes, an Oklahoma Sooners fan, views the annual game as a marker for the fall season.
“Me and my family watch the game every year. It’s a really special time to see which team wins because my family is a fan of both teams. When the OU VS Texas Longhorn game comes on I start to feel fall,” Hayes said.
Fall traditions are different across all families. From annual family reunions to visiting a pumpkin patch, families appreciate the season to get together and enjoy each other’s company. In recent years it has been a trend to get together with friends and take photos at the pumpkin patches. Sophomore Michelle Duoeng enjoys how fall events bring her family and friends together.
“It’s basically a nice way to go out with your friends and walk around the pumpkin patch and take cute pictures with friends. I think they’re [pumpkin patches] trending because kids nowadays don’t get out much and it’s a nice way to take photos for Instagram and put on a nice fall outfit and there’s, most of the time, activities and something to eat along the trail,” Duoeng said.
Halloween is another important indicator of the fall season. From trick-or-treating to Halloween parties, there are many ways to celebrate. With a resurgence of 2000’s style, many people tried reflecting this trend in their costumes. Macaffe has noticed how trends often impact Halloween celebrations.
”I saw a lot of ladybugs and bees and a lot of 2000’s costumes too. They have been trending on TikTok and I noticed some in school and out trick or treating,” said Macaffe
Fall also allows a whole new way for people to express themselves. It’s the perfect time to try on new styles of fashion with the weather allowing the ability to add more layers. Holleigh Beresh finds new fashion to be the best part of the season
“I like fall the most, probably because I like to wear sweaters and boots and the more trendy clothes. This year everybody’s wearing clothes like the Uggs and the denim mini skirt looks,” Beresh said.
Autumn brings holiday cheer and family together. Thanksgiving being one of America’s busiest travel seasons of the year, many families are trying to make it home to their loved ones for holidays. English teacher Beth Simmonds shares her love of how the holiday season brings everyone together.
“Every three weeks, somebody in our family has a birthday, which is a really nice birthday season. It’s just a lot of family togetherness, my family helps decorate, and those sorts of things. But we have family and themed costumes, and also Thanksgiving. It’s also the beginning of our birthday seasons so yes fall kicks off my family season,” Simmonds said.
Fall is a season that brings families together, with new festivities, fashion, and sports. No matter what different people may enjoy, the season has something for everyone. Friends and family take advantage of the season to come together and experience that classic fall feeling.
