Cultural diversity in America can be seen as a benefit because it gives people the chance to experience different things outside of what they are normally accustom. Because of these benefits and many others, countries, organizations and even schools are looking for ways and means of boosting their cultural understanding of different cultures.

Lake Ridge high is a school made up of students from many different cultural backgrounds. Understanding and appreciating these different cultures is important to building a society that is powerful enough to attain significant changes and development. Also, understanding these many cultures help to prevent racial and ethnic division that can create an unsuitable environment for effective teaching and learning.

It is for this reason that Lake Ridge accepts international exchange students each year from all over the world to help promote a better understanding of their countries and cultures through presentations and interactions.
About five exchange students are currently in the school from countries such as Ghana, China, Thailand, Indonesia and Spain and can help get students get a better understanding of different cultures. If we do not learn about the influence that a particular cultural group has on mainstream history and culture we are missing out on an accurate view of our society and community.
