Squid Game is a show on Netflix that has become popular throughout the world. It is the best rated show in over 90 countries and is subtitled in 31 languages and dubbed in 13. Viewers like Sophomore, Tarek Hafza, say that Squid Game is addicting to watch.

“At first I thought it was going to be some overrated show, but when I finally watched Squid Game it was way better than I thought it would be. The first episode got me hooked so I watched another,” says Hafza.

According to an article from CNE, Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk said that he got the idea for the show back in 2008 from a comic book about people who were playing an extreme game. It took him 13 years to get the show to be made. Some people claim he got it from a similar Japanese film called “As The Gods Will” which is based on a Japanese manga, Kami-sama no Iu Toori. Squid Game’s director said at a 2021 Netflix hosted press conference that only the first game in the film is similar to his show, and that he had been working on his concept for years.

The name behind the show is from a popular game in Korea during the 70s-80s called Squid Game. Another game in the show is Honeycomb which is where all the players are given Dalgona which is a popular Korean sweet that has shapes in them. These shapes have to be cut out by the players and if the candy breaks or they run out of time they get eliminated. Junior, Ameen Alansari, is curious about the meanings behind the games played.

“The show answered most of my questions but why did they choose those games? Is it because the Old Man knew them because he was the host or is it random and just fun activities everyone can do,” Alansari.

Most people are wondering if there is going to be a season 2 and if their season 1 questions will get answered. Who are the masked people and how did they get there? Who are the VIPS? Why was the Squid Game created since it started in 1988 and it has been going since 2020? In a 2021 interview with The Times, director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, says he may return to big-screen movies before thinking about a Squid Game sequel.

“I don’t have well-developed plans for Squid Game 2,” he told Variety. “It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors,” says Hwang Dong-hyuk

This show has provided viewers with a wide variety of emotions after watching the show. Some say that Episode 6 was sad and some cried or were on the verge of tears when their favorite character died or there was an emotional moment in the show, and others were upset with the show when Their favorite character died. Sophomore, Asher Popple, is one of the people who had strong emotions throughout the show and when it finished.

“The show got me very intrigued after a while and my favorite character had to be the police spy who went undercover as one of the workers. Whenever he was on screen looking for evidence to find his brother it would always make me love the show even more because everything he did always had some action in it also episode 6 “Gganbu” which is were important characters die and some are betrayed by others which makes this episode sad and it changed my perspective of some characters after it,” Popple.

“We’ve Already Come Too Far To End This Now,” says the character Sang-Woo. All good things must come to an end but fans all around the world hope Squid Game could return in the next few years, until then fans will have to proceed without knowing the true origins and story of Squid Game.
