New rivalries emerge after UIL realignment

Lake Ridge High School Athletics is getting a new athletic district: UIL District 10-5A. The district realignment includes intracity rivals Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Timberview, and Mansfield Summit. The new district also includes Waxahachie, Lancaster, Red Oak, and district newcomer Midlothian. The new district was announced Monday, February 1st at Birdville’s FAAC and the new alignment will be in place through the end of the 2018 school year.

Even with the removal of two football powerhouses from the previous district lineup, Lake Ridge is still in one of the toughest districts in the state. “Lancaster, Mansfield ISD,and Waxahachie is still one of the toughest 5A districts in the area even without Ennis and Corsicana,” described Dallas Morning News reporter, Corbett Smith. Two LRHS non district games were announced as well.  The Eagles will be playing former 6A power Denton Guyer who is back in 5A, and Mesquite Poteet who lost to Lake Ridge in the third round of the playoffs last season.  Lake Ridge football has nine of their ten games for the 2016-17 season scheduled.
