Golf Takes Swing at Districts
`Our Lake Ridge golf teams played in the UIL District 14-5A competition April 4-6. The Eagles golf team finished with 3rd place medals and a nail biting overall win for the Lady Eagles.
The boys golf team faced tough competition against Legacy and Summit, but stood their ground and took their place on the podium. Fabian Olguin, junior, said, “We played with valor and integrity.”
The first day of district competition came with some unexpected challenges. Throughout the first day, Summit High School challenged the Lady Eagles and finished the first round in a tie with the Lady Jaguars. The boys golf team took the first round warming up to the course. “I wasn’t happy with how I played the first day, but I felt good about how I finished the second day,” explained Brendon Lowrence, senior.
The second round of district competition allowed both teams to come back more determined. The boys finished 3rd overall with Lowrance finished as the 2nd place medalist.
“The boys did real good, I’m very very proud of them. We came up short but if we played to our full potential we would definitely be in the mix. I’m really excited about the coming years with our newest lineup,” said Head Golf Coach, Scott Christiansen.
The girls golf team played steady, as the Lady Jaguars faltered on the second day and secured first place.
“We were happy to win districts again because that gives us a chance to go to regionals, possibly state,” said golfer Kayleigh Mints, junior.
