Eagles Compete At The Rudder Invitational

The varsity Eagles Tennis Team traveled to the Rudder Invitational Tournament lasting from Thursday, Mar. 30 through Saturday Apr. 1, in Bryan, Tx near College Station. Athletes traveled Thursday evening, then competed Friday and Saturday at various high schools around the College station area. The competition gave athletes the opportunity to test their skills, as well as explore the A&M campus.

Emma Wolfe, Junior, believed that they had the edge over their competition when they got the momentum of the game. Going along side her doubles partner Daniela Wong, Sophomore, and leading them to a first place finish in the tournament for the varsity girls doubles.

“Coming into a tournament like this out of town, you can definitely expect to have good competition, Daniela and I stayed calm and did our thing, we got the momentum of the match early, and luckily we were able to carry that momentum throughout the final match,” Wolfe said.

Sophomore, Francisco Huereta, trusted in his abilities as a singles player to get ready for district, and believes he has peaked just in time to perform his best at district.

“This tournament was a real confidence booster, I told coach that I trust in my abilities as a singles player, and he allowed me to do so this tournament and for district, making it to the quarter finals at this tournament says a lot, and I’m really proud,” Huereta said.

Austin Troung, Senior, reflects back on his high school career as a student athlete, enjoying all the times he’s had as a tennis player.

“Looking back at all the times Iv’e been through as a member of the tennis team starting sophomore year, I can’t help not to get emotional right now as it all comes to an end soon, the team is like a family to me, they always have my back, and I always will have theirs, and I’ll never forget the memories and fun I had these past few years,” Troung said.

All in all, the travel to Bryan gave the Eagles an opportunity to play against great players from all cross the state. Along with having fun with teammates, the Tennis Team became closer throughout the trip.
