On April 12, 2015 U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, announced her candidacy for the 2016 Presidential election with a Youtube video. Her political involvement dates back to 1973 where she participated in the Children’s Defense Fund, a nonprofit organization which focuses on children’s advocacy and research. Clinton also served in the U.S. Senate from 2001 to 2009 and was Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. This experience has prepared her for being President.

Being a millennial who is also a Hillary Clinton supporter, I find her past and current involvement with certain issues and decisions appealing to me as a future voter.

Throughout her campaign rallies, Clinton discussed issues she planed to resolve as well as real time problems America is facing today. Hearing her acknowledge the Black Lives Matter movement was important to me. According to a Wall Street Journal article, Clinton said, “We’ve got to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system.”

In addition, Clinton encourages the children of the United States to further their education. College has become a main focus in her discussions, as she has promised to lower student debt and eventually make college as a whole debt free. “Let’s make debt-free college available to everyone and let’s liberate the millions of Americans who already have student debt,” said Clinton on her website hillaryclinton.com

Entering my junior year, college is constantly on my mind. It’s a topic that’s brought up in many conversations around the junior class, and hearing students admit they simply don’t have the money to further their education and ultimately better themselves through college is heartbreaking. College has become an expected norm in our society and inevitably a proclaimed need to succeed in the world. Clinton’s proposed plan is just another reason why she is the best option in this election.

Nevertheless, controversial topics such as being pro-life and pro-choice are important issues to me as well. Donald Trump has come out and said he is pro-life while Hillary Clinton is pro-choice. I believe no man or woman should have a say in what you think is best for you and your child’s life. It is your body, therefore I believe you should do what you want.

Clinton in a Washington Post article explains. “Politicians have no business interfering with women’s personal health decisions. I will oppose efforts to roll back women’s access to reproductive health care, including Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. As president, I’ll stand up for Planned Parenthood and women’s access to critical health services, including safe, legal abortion.”

I cannot understand how a man feels it’s his duty to control the decisions of a woman’s body. Women have been fighting for equal rights and respect for far too long to have a man come in and want to control them again.

More recently, Donald Trump been caught in an audio recording from 2005 saying, “when you’re a star they let you do it,” referring to relations with a woman, after only being married a few months to his third wife, Melania Trump. Based off of this audio and claim I don’t believe Trump has an ounce of respect for the very people who’ve helped build this country. He has made remarks about women being pigs, fat, and dogs. During the 1996 Miss Universe pageant, Alicia Machado was referred to as “Miss Piggy” by Trump as well as “Miss Eating Machine” according to an article in the Washington Post. These should not be the words of a potential president. What kind of human thinks it is ok to call women disrespectful names?

Americans should not stand for it. So in doing so, I encourage everyone to vote November 8th. This election isn’t just about Democrats versus Republicans, or Trump versus Clinton. It’s about our future, it’s about what will better our country and future generations.
