Eagles Finish Second at State Championship
The Lake Ridge Eagles varsity football team ended their dream season by finishing as runner-up at the UIL 5A Division I State Championships at NRG Stadium in Houston. The Eagles competed against the fast-paced George Ranch Longhorns on Friday night. The Longhorns boasted an impressive 450 yards rushing and 536 total offensive yards in the 56-0 shutout of the Eagles.
With injuries sustained to Quarterback Jett Duffey and Running Back Duke Carter, the Eagles turned to Sophomore Jason Bean who lead the Eagles in the second half, but the halftime deficit of 21-0 was too much to overcome. The Eagles managed only 9 first downs, 119 yards rushing, and 81 yards passing, for a total of 200 yards of offense with no touchdowns.
The Eagles end the year with a record of 15-1 and are the first team in Mansfield ISD to advance to the UIL State Championship in 40 years.
