Eagles defense takes on the Broncos

In a game with playoff implications on the line, the Lake Ridge Eagles took on the Legacy Broncos in a crosstown “Pink Out” showdown under the Friday nights lights at Newsom Stadium in Mansfield.

When the dust settled, the Eagles were defeated by the fast-paced Broncos by the score of  49-39.

The Eagles offense struck first by scoring within the first two minutes of the game.  However, the Broncos offensive game was too much for the Eagles defense to conquer.  The Eagles gave up 21 points in the first quarter and 21 unanswered points in the third quarter, but responded by scoring 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.

The Eagles offense had 531 total yards but only 192 yards rushing averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Running back Darrius Lee, junior, lead the ground running game with 119 yards and one touchdown, and Jamison Manning, senior, ran for 52 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Jason Bean, junior, passed for 339 yards and four touchdowns. The Eagles offense struggled with possession of the ball giving up three turnovers; two interceptions and one fumble.

The Eagles defense allowed 500 total yards to the Broncos with 346 yards rushing and forced one interception.

The Eagles fall to 3-2 in district play and will take on Mansfield Timberview High School at Newsom Stadium on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Lake Ridge will be the home team for this game.
