The LRHS Volleyball Team celebrates after winning the game.

History was made Tuesday night when the Eagles volleyball team advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs for the first time.

“The team dealt with some adversity, but a complete team effort got us the win,” said Assistant Coach, Keondra Mallard.

Midlothian couldn’t handle the thunderous strikes by freshmen Logyn Hinds and Madison Williams, and Capri Davis, junior, in game two. Their effort was tremendous throughout the game however one play in particular seemed symbolic of the Eagles’ special night.

Alexis Praytor, junior, sprinted nearly into the stands to save a ball that led to a Davis spike and the Lake Ridge point.

“This was an unforgetable night. I knew I needed to step up because this was such a big game,” said Praytor.

Lake Ridge fell behind early but the Midlothian lead was quickly erased after Davis went on an incredible run. Davis had two spikes and stopped two Midlothian strikes to get four straight points.

Mackenzie Benoit, senior, filled game four with powerful play, along with Davis, Hinds, and Williams. In the end, Midlothian just couldn’t handle the fire power of the Eagles’ spikes.

Lake Ridge served an ace to seal the game and advance to the fourth round. The Eagles will take on Lovejoy at Berkner High School in Richardson on Friday at 5:00pm.
