Lake Ridge receives a trophy after beating Crowley and advancing into the second round of the playoffs.

Lake Ridge took care of business in dramatic fashion Friday night beating Crowley in round one of the playoffs 49-42 in double overtime.

It was a nail biter throughout the entire game as Lake Ridge began the 4th quarter down 28-13. However a furious comeback by the Eagles led to a miracle finish.

“It feels as if anything is possible, we were down, but by us coming back made the team realize that we are capable of more than what we have allowed. It’s just great,” said senior wide receiver, Tyler Robinson.

The fourth quarter was when the Eagles’ rally began as they made up their minds they didn’t want their season to end on Friday.

“Being down late wasn’t the issue for us, but deciding wether we wanted to keep playing football for another week and if we wanted to move onto the next round of playoffs is what drove us,” Robinson said.

The momentum shifted when the defense made numerous stops down the stretch highlighted by a game saving tackle by junior, Trejon Hugue which sent the game into overtime.

“My mindset was to get a stop on defense and let our offense do what they do best and go score. I was thinking that it could’ve been the last game of the season and I didn’t want to let my senior brothers down. I knew I had to make a play,” Hugue said.

Crowley started overtime off scoring relatively quickly with a 10-yard run to put them up 35-42. Senior, Darius Lee responded with a touchdown run of his own from the two yard line which tied the game at 42, sending the game into double overtime.

In the end it would take another Lee score, plus a defensive stop on 4th and 12 to seal the Lake Ridge miracle comeback.

The Eagles will play Dallas Samuel on Friday November 18 at 7:30, at Waxahachie Lumpkins Stadium.
