Johnson waits for music to begin routine

Lake Ridge Winterguard member, Summer Johnson, freshman, took to the floor in competition at the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) Solo/Ensemble Competition at Colleyville Heritage High School in Grapevine, TX on Saturday, April 22.

Johnson performed a solo routine entitled “Provincial Life” to the instrumental music, “Beauty and the Beast” by Lindsey Stirling.

“The performance was entertaining,” said John Leonard, NTCA judge.

The NTCA Solo/Ensemble Competition judges each performance against a set standard score out of 100, while rating performers with Divisional standards and offering superior ratings.  Performances scoring 90 or higher qualify for the NTCA All-Star Championships.

Johnson’s performance earned her a Superior Division 1 rating with a score of 94/100 and advanced her to the All-Star Championships.

“I was very proud of how I performed,” explained Johnson. “I have been working really hard for this and I’m looking forward to improving my routine for the championships.”

This marks the first time in Lake Ridge Winterguard history that a member has qualified for the All-Star Championships.

Bradley Bonebrake, Lake Ridge Band Director, was proud of the historic performance.

“We are extremely proud of Summer’s performance at this past weekend’s North Texas Colorguard Association Solo and Ensemble Contest. We are excited that she earned advancement to the next level of competition and are excited to watch her perform at the NTCA All-Star Solo and Ensemble Contest hosted at Lake Ridge High School on Saturday, May 6th. We wish her the very best of luck,” said Bonebrake.

The NTCA All-Star Championships will be held on May 6 at Lake Ridge High School.
