The Eagle Academic Decathlon team is accustom to rigorous academic competition through team activities that challenge their minds.  These challenges encourage communication, teamwork, and build relationships.

Now, the Eagle AcDec team is taking their brainpower to a whole new level.  After 4 years of coaching and training, Lake Ridge History and Economic teacher, Brandon Austin, is  taking the LR Academic Decathlon team of 2015-2016 to the State Championship.

“I was very excited for those kids because they worked so hard for several years to be able to do it,” Austin said.

The Academic Decathlon is a unique way to include students of many different academic levels.  The 12 persons team consists of an equal amount of A, B, and C level students, who will all be competing against other North Texas high schools at the State competition. All members of the winning team will be receiving scholarships and will represent Texas in the national USAD competition.

The Eagle AcDec team will be staying at the Omni Hotel, on Feb. 25th, where they will enjoy a “53 inch pizza with LR in the center of it,” said Austin enthusiastically.

Austin is content with moving up a couple of spots in the tournament, and hopes that the success and confidence of this year’s momentum will help to build a better team in the near future as well. “It takes some time at times to get where you want to go and it takes a long time sometimes to get there, but when you do it tastes a lot sweeter,” Austin said.

Wish our Academic Decathlon team good luck in the comment section below and check out the interview with a couple of the team members.
