Severe Weather Causes School Cancellation
Mansfield Independent School District cancelled school on Wednesday, Mar. 29, due to power outages brought on by severe storms.
The district sent out notifications via email, text, and MISD Alert phone calls at 6:42 a.m. once the decision had been made by the superintendent to cancel school. At the time of the cancellation, over 20 schools were without power.
Students at Ben Barber that had arrived at school for the 7 a.m. start time were originally held in the commons area then released to return home.
Severe weather overnight brought straight line winds of 75-80 mph, hail, microbursts, and heavy rain to the Mansfield area.
All MISD schools will reopen Thursday, Mar. 30. Students will return to their “B” Day classes as noted on the calendar. The missed “A” Day will not have to be rescheduled.
