The Lake Ridge Lady Eagle Soccer team competed against Red Oak on Monday night in the third round of the playoffs at Birdville ISD Stadium. The Eagles won by a score of 4-1 to advance to the fourth round.

“Our game against Red Oak went very well. We played very well as a whole and when the game got very hectic we kept our composure,” senior, Caiti Broccoli told ENN.

“It was really competitive, but we played together as a unit and came out with a huge win,” explained junior, Marissa Ling.

Going into the fourth round this Friday, the team anticipates what the outcome will be positive. Success up until the fourth round in previous years makes it slightly more stressful for them but the team is determined to not let it shake them.

“It’s hard to focus on the now, given that you’ve been to playoffs so many times. But all you can do is take one game at a time. You can’t think about what happened last year in playoffs. You just have to think about that one game and that you’re going to make the team better,” revealed junior, Bailey Cook.

“We just want to play and win for the seniors this year and really make them proud,” added Ling.

Some ladies on the team admit that they feel pressure to win the fourth round, but others claim the fourth round is just a motivation factor to keep going.

“There’s no pressure for me, more of a determination than anything else,” admitted Broccoli.

“There is pressure. Our team wants to beat the “fourth round curse,” so bad,” said Cook.

“We’ve played up until the fourth round the past three years and lost,” explained Ling. “So it’s just important to us that we win this year. Anything can happen.”

The team has high expectations for the game this Friday against Highland Park.

“I don’t know how to explain how I feel but I am a mix of everything: nervous, excited, happy, and sad. At this point all teams are good and we have to play our hardest and put it all out there every second of every game. I know it’s going to be a tough game but I believe anything can happen and I know we have the potential to win,” said senior Brooke Lampe.

“When it comes Friday, I’ll be super nervous. I believe if we give it everything we have and we work as a team, we can be a really big threat on Friday,” said Cook.
