Bring the New Out of the Old

In addition to being nostalgic, many old shows have been rebooted in recent years, including ‘Strawberry Shortcake’, ‘My Little Pony,’ ‘Magic School Bus,’ and even ‘Blue Clues,’ changing the way these old shows look.

As old shows are being rebooted, many things are being changed, such as the characters, animation, and voice actors. Many people feel these changes have changed the original essence of the shows. English teacher Reene White feels that it is nice to revisit it by changing certain things but feels that not all changes were necessary.

“I think it’s cool that we’re revisiting it so that the kids can see what we saw when we were younger, but one thing  I do not like is that they are changing certain characters and the way they look like, Miss Frizzle was like so cool back in the day and she was so frizzy, and now all she likes, just looks like a normal person. Her whole character design wasn’t supposed to be normal that’s why she was Miss Frizzle, and that’s the cool part about her,” said White.

Many feel that reboots aren’t needed since they ruin the show when the production changes them, so they shouldn’t be done. Junior Aashirya Harris feels that producers shouldn’t do reboots in the first place.

“Most of the time they don’t need reboots and they always change the characters like skin color or change how they look or the design in my opinion they make them look weird and too animated to fit in with the times,” said Harris.

While Harris doesn’t like the reboots, freshman Dorothy Injie enjoys them because she feels it’s better to make new shows for the younger kids.

“Personally I like the new reboots because they are different and in better quality than the ones I watched when I was younger and it probably makes it easier for them to watch it,” said Injie.

The new shows keep coming, and some may not wanna watch them due to them not liking the changes or just because the animations aren’t to their liking, like sophomore Keon’Dre Warner.

“Seeing old shows I watched as a kid getting new revamps I don’t wanna watch them because the new animation style they use now is glossy and unrealistic or too realistic,” said Warner.

The animation changes in the new shows are happening because it is catering to the new generation of kids that are coming to watch shows because older shows may be worse quality. Harris feels they change them because the new generation may think the quality is bad

“The newer shows they make them look more animated to keep up with the times because most kids, now if they see something  that we grew up on, think the quality is bad and they don’t want to watch it,” said Harris.

Other than them making changes to old shows they could make changes but not do that much. Freshman Madison Lambert feels that they shouldn’t change that many things and if she could change a show she would go about it differently.

“If I could changes a show I would change the magic school bus, I would keep the character designs the same cause they made her look very different and weird she isn’t her usual self,” said Lambert.

Overall making old shows new comes with many different changes that are good and bad, old shows being nostalgic is a good thing but old things die, and recreating gives them a new light.
