Senior Chase Austin donates blood

Health Occupations of America held its annual blood drive throughout Mansfield Independent School District high school campuses Dec 9. Taught at Ben Barber High School, HOSA is designed help students learn about different medical backgrounds.

This year, Lake Ridge had more than 200 blood donors; more than any other Mansfield ISD high school.

“It felt good knowing that I was saving other people’s lives.” said Lake Ridge sophomore Rebecca Vincent, who donated to the cause.

One pint of blood can save up to three lives, according to bbl.gov.

Baylor student, Joshua Tran, explained that “one out of three people need blood in order to save their life. The donation of blood can raise the quality of ones’ life.” He stressed, “This is something that needs to be done.”

Donors at Lake Ridge needed to be 18 years old, or 16 and over with parental consent to donate blood.
