Mansfield Supports Toys for Tots
The 4th Annual Toys For Tots Drive took place at the Mansfield Performing Arts Center on December 9, 2015 from 5-10:30pm. Traffic lined the streets surrounding the center for miles as residents from Mansfield, and surrounding cities, joined in donating toys for children in need. This charity has become one of the city’s biggest annual events.
This year’s toy drive collected over 30,000 toys and raised over $9,000 in donations for the charity. The event included performances from local school choirs, bounce houses, food trucks, free Starbucks and hot chocolate, and was sponsored and broadcast by FOX 4 News.
“It’s a great way for the community to come together and donate toys to those in need,” explained Travis Moore, Principal of Danny Jones Middle School. “I love listening to the choirs, and seeing the drill teams perform,” added Jennifer Powers, Principal of Wester Middle School.
“My favorite part of Toys for Tots is actually counting the toys we collect at school,” explained Senior Cheerleader Kenzie McKay. “It makes me happy knowing kids will have toys for Christmas.”
The Chisolm Trail Jeep Club added to the evening’s excitement by bringing a convoy of 65 Jeeps decorated with lights and filled with toys.
The event conducted it’s annual mascot race with accolades going to the Summit Jaguar who dethroned the Lake Ridge Eagle who had held the title for three years.
