New iPhone, New Me
5G speed. A14 Bionic, the fastest chip in a smartphone. Super Retina XDR display with a 6.1‐inch edge-to-edge OLED display, MagSafe wireless charging, Ceramic Shield with four times better drop performance and Night mode on every camera as well as Ultra Wide and Wide cameras. Every year, Apple releases a new iPhone and most anticipate with curiosity, wondering if it will be better than the previous one. As the new iPhone is unveiled, the features of the phone seem progressively advanced. However, with a new phone comes new expectations and with the announcement of the iPhone 12, some are loving it and some are severely disappointed.
With the iPhone 12 on its way to the stores, it is often compared to its previous successors or other companies such as Samsung. One comparison some are making is the comparison to the iPhone 5 and how similar they look. Some people are even saying that Apple looks like they are going back generations instead of advancing forward. People are also starting to compare the features to the Galaxy S20, Pixel 5, and OnePlus 8T, despite the announcement just being a few days ago. For Junior, Kaitlyn Bennett, though the iPhone 12 might be the similar successor to its predecessor, it is still something she might be wanting in the near future.
“The way it’s built is quite similar to the iPhone 5 and I used to have one, so I know. Also, the multiple cameras are very reminiscent of the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro. However, even if I think it is ugly or similar to other phones, I might still buy it,” said Bennett.
Some new features included in the iPhone 12 are: several new color options, built-in 5G technology for WiFi, and a new magnetic charger, similar to the one for Apple Watches. These new perks benefit the user and allow those to do things that the older iPhone generations cannot do. With these new features, many are looking forward to the new generation of iPhones. Having one of the newest iPhones, the iPhone 11 Pro, Senior, Eriel Fields, finds the new additions very beneficial.
“I like how the iPhone 12 has different perks and benefits, like the magnetic charger. I have one of those for my Apple Watch and it is very helpful. It also comes with a scanner which is great for augmented reality. Also, I like how there are different versions of phones, like different colors and also there is a smaller version because I don’t like my phone too big,” said Fields.
Though with every positive, there comes a negative. Some iPhone users are not that excited for this newest phone as they were for other generations, or not excited at all. When opening a new iPhone, the box accordingly comes with an iPhone charger and a pair of headphones, but not this time. Apple has taken away the complementaries and users are outraged. For Senior, Khyler Scott, the price of the phone and its perks doesn’t add up for her.
“I dislike how it doesn’t come with earphones or a charger whenever you buy the phone. The phone costs a lot of money. It ranges from six hundred to nine hundred dollars and for it to only come with just the phone with no perks is ridiculous,” said Scott.
Throughout all the iPhones that have been released, the iPhone 12 has caused a lot of commotion within the general public, good and bad. There have been multiple posts on social media sites such as, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, either complimenting or “roasting” the newest generation of iPhone. However, with the new additions and few controversial setbacks, the iPhone 12 will ultimately be bought by certain buyers around the world.
