Girls varsity team standing with there runner up trophy

The Eagles Cross Country Team competed in the Ken Gaston Invitational, Thursday morning at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, TX.

The girls varsity team performed well at the meet, earning them a 2nd place overall team standing out of 27 teams. Leading the varsity girls was Taylor Hayes, senior, who placed 6th overall with a seasons best time of 19:50.

“I’m having a great season so far. I ran a seasons best today and our team did really good. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has to offer,” Hayes said.

The boys varsity team competed strong finishing 13th out of 37 teams. Leading the boys this week was junior, Zion Smith. Smith placed 19th with a season’s best of 17:08. Zion admits to struggling in the beginning, but was able to focus himself for the remainder of the race.

“The start was hard. There were a lot of schools (at the meet) and I got caught up with them, but I got around and was able race hard to the finish,” Smith said.

The JV boys placed 14th out of 41 teams, led by Torrence Meeks, freshman, who recorded a time of 19:35.

The Eagles will be competing again next Friday, Oct.  7, in the Mansfield Invitational at the Mansfield Sports Complex.  This will be the last meet before district competition.
